Secure Wireless Aircraft Data Load

Project Overview

Project Abstract

The Secure Wireless Aircraft Data Load is a project tasked to our team by Collins Aerospace to address the ad-hoc wired and wireless upload methods used in aircraft cabin systems. The issue aircraft maintenance technicians face is that the systems on an aircraft are unique and involve custom tools/processes. Worse than that, these processes don’t follow any specific security standards. Our team addresses this with our wireless prototype, which eliminates the need for custom tools/processes with a singular method of upload, a user friendly interface, and the industry standard security protocol. We hope it will become the inspiration for further developments in the aviation industry.

Expected Deliverables

  • Prototype Environment and Software: The prototype implements wireless loading on devkits such as Raspberry Pi's emulating aircraft functions.
  • Project Report: Must explore feasibility of the solution with airline maintenance procedures and show how operator burden is reduced.
